Statistical issues in the analysis of adverse events in time-to-event data.
The aim of this work is to shed some light on common issues in the statistical analysis of adverse events (AEs) in clinical trials, when the main outcome is a time-to-event endpoint. To begin, we show that AEs are always subject to competing risks. That is, the occurrence of a certain AE may be precluded by occurrence of the main time-to-event outcome or by occurrence of another (fatal) AE. Thi...
متن کاملTrivalent Influenza Vaccine Adverse Event Analysis Based On MedDRA System Organ Classes Using VAERS Data
We studied serious reports following influnza vaccine from VAERS database in year 2011. Our statistical analyses revealed differences of reactions among different age groups and between genders. The results may lead to additional studies to uncover factors contributing to the individual differences in susceptibility to influenza infection.
متن کاملThe Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).
Immunizations against most vaccine-preventable diseases will be needed indefinitely unless the disease is eradicated. Public acceptance of immunizations may be threatened as vaccine coverage increases and disease decreases, however, due to the increase in both causally and coincidentally related vaccine adverse events. The post-marketing surveillance for such events in the USA in response to th...
متن کاملSafety data on meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.
Recent recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices may lead to the increased use of the meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine. The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is useful for the detection of previously unrecognized reactions and for the monitoring of known reactions. Limitations of VAERS include underreporting...
متن کاملA statistical test for outlier identification in data envelopment analysis
In the use of peer group data to assess individual, typical or best practice performance, the effective detection of outliers is critical for achieving useful results. In these ‘‘deterministic’’ frontier models, statistical theory is now mostly available. This paper deals with the statistical pared sample method and its capability of detecting outliers in data envelopment analysis. In the prese...
